The Tominator and Hockey - Together Again!!!

Greetings from Southern California!!!

I’d like to share two things with all of you:

1. I have just been offered a job as the customer
service rep for Goaliemonkey hockey stores! I’ll be
handling the online (www.goaliemonkey.com)and phone
orders mainly, but I will also get out on the showroom
floor and handle questions from the public regarding
all of the goalie products we sell - names such as
Vaughn, TPS, RBK, CCM, Bauer, Sher-Wood, and many
more! I applied on Tuesday and was offered the job
about an hour later! I’m excited to be starting out
and growing along with a fast-moving company. I get to
be around goalie equipment all day and get paid for
it! Woo hoo! So, if I can be of any help to you
regarding hockey equipment, please let me know! I AM
GOALIEMONKEY!!!

2. Last Sunday (cuz it rained all day Saturday)I
played in the first pre-season game of the SoCal
Street Hockey league! I had much rust to shake off,
and found some pretty significant differences between
this league and our beloved Tucson league. I’ll list
the main ones:

a. the nets we use are NHL regulation size - six feet
wide, as opposed to 54 inch wide. More lateral space I
gotta cover..!

b. the rink here has more “grip” to it, as it’s been
covered in some sort of concrete paint - we have
faceoff circles, red lines, goalie creases, etc.

c. we don’t use the liquid-filled balls here (I wish
we did) - they favor those empty Mylec ones that curve
wickedly when a slapshot is taken. Definately keeps a
goalie on his/her toes!

d. we have a regulation size digital clock, and play
three 15-minute periods with a 5 minute break between.
We also have referees, penalty boxes, benches and
actual boards.

e. this league has teams and divisions - there are
around 200 players and more are coming in every
season, so I’m told.

These are just some of the differences. It’ll take
some getting used to, and some adjustment of my game
and gear (thank God for my employee discount, eh?),
but I am looking forward to being between the pipes
again!

The league manager liked my play last Sunday enough to
put me on TWO teams! I’m gonna be pretty busy, no
doubt. A lot of the leagues more “elite” players
(skillwise) would give Tim, Will, Andy, Goalie Chris
or either Slovak (your pick!) a good run, and I faced
some wicked slapshots that day!

We played hard and fast, and came away in a 6-6 tie
before calling it a game. Turnout wasn’t as good as
hoped, due to a lot of the established team players
watching some football game or something. But we had
the leagues #1 team come out and I played against some
of them. The first period ended with no goals being
scored on either goalie. Yours truly even faced a
penalty shot! The second period was a different story.
That’s where all of the game’s goals were scored.
Third period wasn’t much to even write about - people
were tired and some even left early! lol I stayed
until we decided that enough was enough. I’m going
back on Saturday to play in the next pre-season game
before the season starts on the 28th. I’ll also be
going to see the Ducks play the Florida Panthers that
evening at the Arrowhead Pond (my second game so far).

So thanks for reading my long-winded update on what’s
going on with me. May God bless you for your patience!
lol

I miss and love each and every one of you, wherever
you are!
